3 Reasons YOU should try HIIT.

Truth: Most people aren’t really fans of long, monotonous exercise and most people simply don’t have time! Yes, it’s true—you can actually burn more fat and calories when you work out for less time instead of more.

Because with high intensity interval training, you can burn calories more efficiently than you would running for an hour, and it is much more time efficient. Amazing!?

What is HiiT?

Seen it bantered around but haven’t had an explanation? It’s basically a circuit style program. We usually have 8-10 exercises, some cardio, strength and core and you will move from one station to the next after 30-45 seconds on each. It’s fast, fun and if you’re doing it in the FJ Shed Crew, you’re in a group of people sweating & having fun (mostly).

Here's why YOU should give it a go:

1. Efficiency

You’ve probably realized this already, but HIIT is one of the most efficient forms of exercise you can do. That makes it perfect for:

• Busy people

• Lazy people

• Efficiency aficionados

• Anyone who wants to get in better shape (but doesn’t want to spend hours doing it)

Research shows you can make more progress in just 15 minutes of HIIT than you can running for an entire hour.

According to a 2011 study presented at the American College of Sports Medicine Annual Meeting, just two weeks of HIIT improves your aerobic capacity as much as six to eight weeks of endurance training. I have tested this theory myself and can absolutely vouch for its success in my endurance running, cycling and swimming. I love to take the time out to exercise for hours but I don’t always get the time so keeping up a HIIT routine means that when I do have the time to do some endurance, I also have the fitness so that I can enjoy it!

2. Burn More Fat

Looking to lose some extra body fat? HIIT can take care of this faster than any other form of exercise.

The effects of all that hard work from HIIT actually kick your body’s repair cycle into hyper-drive mode—meaning you actually continue to burn fat in the 24 hours after HIIT, not just during your workout.

3. It’s easier

Don't let the phrase 'high intensity' scare you off. It's actually easier to work really hard when it’s for shorter intervals. Shorter goals makes a big effort more palatable.

HIIT forces you to work harder than you ever thought possible.

It gives you the confidence you never knew you needed. It makes you stronger and fitter than ever before.

HIIT pushes your limits until you feel like you can try other fitness lifestyle opportunities you may not have considered before. Because now you KNOW you can do anything!

Here's The Catch:

You have to give your HIIT session your maximum effort for at least 2 stations - choose what they will be and do that. I usually choose the spin bike, kettle bell swings, skipping, stair sprints.

It won’t work if you don’t.

But isn’t that the same with anything?
